To think I literally overthrew that tyrant Kenisu and became Green faction president. What a flood of memories to check back in here. It's sad, really...

Well I'm back here after uh... one year... oops

I checked the discord on the wiki but the invite broke. Anyone have a new invite?

Here's a current link to the Skyrates discord: link broke, message me for link

Should be stable. Let me know if it has any issues!

Thanks for the new link. I've updated the Radio page on the Skybrary.

Thought I'd fly a few legs for old time's sake. Hope anyone still out there is doing well.

May as well, before the "window" closes.

Only about 10 months left for Flash.

A friend of mine introduced me to this game 10 years ago, and we recently started talking about it. I logged in for the first time in a decade last night, and now I wish I had continued playing those days back in college. Will there be a way to rescue the game from oblivion after Flash support ends?

Well... I suppose that the Flash client is the primary thing that will prevent Skyrates from being playable.

Although there are loads of things that should also be fixed (including an upgrade to this very Forum), in theory, the database could continue to be operational.

Was reminded of how much i used to play this.

I legitimately hope Skyrates makes a move to unity player or even something on steam at some point.
I feel thats unlikely, but it totally deserves to live on.

At the very least i hope people who are still here do what they can to archive all of this somewhere, this may be an obscure section of internet history, but i feel like its an important one.

Holy crap, the game is still going? Dang, Calvin, kudos! I see the game's down atm, but soon as I can I'll be flying again.

The server has been down intermittently lately (although there is no discernible pattern to the outages). Try back tomorrow!

Will do. Was floored when I discovered this was back up. That'll teach me to give up too soon...

There are three or so official months until the retirement of Flash. Access to Skyrates may be possible afterwards, Devs willing, but some browser tweaks will likely be necessary.

Why don't we have a going away party for our Good Old Game? Hopefully we could persuade the Devs to put together a small competition or challenge or ??? as a nostalgic goodbye and time to reconnect.

Cheers to this fine game which has withstood the test of time, and I hope others here and absent might feel the same way!

Regards,

Bascule

First joined around 2012, where I focused almost exclusively on trading---managed to hit the #1 most profitable per hour trader back then, but then took a long break as other things came up.

Played again briefly in 2018 where I stumbled upon some little program that allowed you to customize planes on the side, where I started trading again, only to take a break after a month or two.

Booted it up just this week and set up a trade route--was super lucky to bump into Atomsk.

Have a lot of fond memories of things back in 2012, but by the time I checked in, again, in 2018, things were totally and completely dead---it's no small miracle Atomsk was actually in the chat just a few days ago.

It's still a shame that this project can't be made open source--this being able to be recoded in HTML5 with additional security would be amazing.

At the very least, I can see things limping along for another year or two by just utilizing flash still---sure, it'll be "dead", but I imagine the plug-in will still be around and work, for a while---though the increasing crash rates I'm hearing about are extremely concerning.

It's kinda a shame a great game like this has lapsed into complete and utter mystery to the wider world---it's a little gem I don't think should ever fade.
