Once we get some information on the carriers, we'll probably want to share notes on where we're targetting and what seems effective, starting up this post as a centralized information location.

I'll be going full on carrier hunting.

Traveling = encounter in flight
In the air = ?
On a particular skyland = ?

Taft, what are the other two locations for encountering?

On a skyland = you can only fight this carrier on patrols at this skyland
In the air = you can only fight this carrier when flying in the air
Traveling = the carrier can be encountered anywhere

I'm very much looking forward to my first Carrier encounter. At long last, my combat-oriented plane setup will truly pay off for the war effort!

A quick question: when hunting, do we encounter Carriers parked at a specific skyland, "airborne" Carriers, or both?

If they've changed this, Taft will chime in, but the combat encounters so far have treating hunting the same as in flight -- no location specific advantages. Therefore hunting would be for traveling / in the air, only patrols will affect 'on a skyland.'

Ok, another question. Do carriers show up if show planes is selected? How exactly are we going to know where the carriers are located?

There is a new webpage coming with carrier tracking.

Do we need to fly in high-danger areas to find the carriers, or can I find them in the core? Also, if we loose to a carrier, how will it affect our missions. If we win, do we get a massive payout, or is it split among all who helped bring it down? How screwed is my trade-engineered Spectre?

High danger areas will have a higher chance of encountering a carrier. But you could also load up on missions to bump up your danger.

If you lose to a carrier, it'll affect your missions just as any other combat.

No payout for winning in terms of money, etc.

This will be problem when carriers are sitting on a skyland, because patrol levels are never modified by anything. And as far as I can tell, it is impossible to get a platform combat when patrolling at any skyland other than Tortuga (and maybe Grotto and Uur; I don't know their level). Rim patrols are significantly below the lowest level I've ever seen a platform (a level 21 Fleet near Cidade).

To be clear -- Is carrier spawning a function of getting past a certain level, or does it continue to be MORE likely at higher and higher levels?

I should have clarified. I was intending it to just be danger levels for when in flight.

Higher levels have a higher chance of spawning it...to a point. There is an eventual cap.

Well there is this.

Though the absence of anyone talking about it on either the dev or player side makes me wonder...
