Nomads saw the flash from where they had parked their planes, and stood watching as a fire consumed a power pole. They couldn't see the men and women fighting to keep the blaze from spreading, except the brief moment where a couple of them had climbed onto a roof and threw buckets of water onto them for protection. A few of them laid down bets on if the fire will spread or not, with the winners laughing when everything was saved.
An hour after the fire was tamed the small group was enjoying a meal together next to their planes when an official walked up. He looked as if he had been on his feet for hours, with his fur on end and his uniform slightly messy. Normally dogs of his kind looked drowsy, but he looked downright exhausted. Normally they would come by and tell nomads to move on, but it was clear he had something else in mind.
"Who is in charge here?" he asked. Juhanah, a fox, stood up and waved.
"How may I assist?" She asked.
"Did you witness any of the events this afternoon?"
"Yes." Juhanah said matter of factly. There was a pause as the official looked at her with an expectation for her to go on.
"And what did you see?" He said after realizing he was going to have to prompt her.
"A transformer on a power pole appeared to explode. There was a fire. People put it out," she said shruging. She wasn't trying to sound like a jerk, but she didn't have much more to add.
"And?"
"That was it really. We cannot see much over the buildings, and those of us who were interested had to stand on their plane to see that."
"Were all your people here during the whole day?"
"A couple of them went to buy supplies when we landed, but for the most part, yes."
The official wrote something down and sighed. He scratched his head then looked over in the direction of the fire. He then spent a moment looking at the nomads gathered and making further notes.
"Do you mind if I ask what happened sir?" Juhanah inquired.
"We had an odd power surge and, as you said, a transformer on that pole exploded. A few people were treated for burns and there were a few minor fires. We are still not sure why the surge happened." There was a pause as he put away his notebook and yawned large and loud. "You have a good day."
Juhanah watched him leave before walking back to the group. "We should leave early tomorrow," she told the group, "I do not like this, and we should go report what happened here."
"What do you mean?" a male fox asked.
"This happened several weeks ago over in Echo, and something tells me this isn't a coincidence."
