-Dawn-

From his viewing room aboard the Scarlet Blade, Admiral Fuseli watched his armada advance towards Tortuga. Flying in tight regimented formations, their crimson painted hulls matched the ruddy hue of the sky before them.

"Red sky at morning, sailor's warning."

From the radio next to him, a crackling voice asked, "I'm sorry sir?"

Fuseli dismissed it, "Nothing, lieutenant. Patch me through to Lord Gilbert."

There was silence, except for the ever present hum of great motors and the emptiness that surrounded his flag ship. After a few seconds, a familiar voice could be heard over the radio.

"Admiral."

"Good day Lord Gilbert," Fuseli responded, "How do you fare?"

"Reasonably well," the voice on the other end replied, albeit a touch ironically, "yourself?"

"One finds little cause for complaint." The Admiral waited a moment and then said, "Gilbert, as a courtesy to you, and a show of my deep respect for your office, I have decided to let you know that I plan on taking Tortuga."

There was silence on the other end of the transmission, until Lord Gilbert responded, his voice calm and diplomatic, "I thank you for the courtesy Admiral Fuseli. Will there be anything all? If not, I feel I should start seeing to the island's defenses."

"God speed, Gilbert."

The other end went dead.

Fuseli walked away from the radio, even as his lieutenant began speaking again. Standing next to the window that overlooked his conquest, he smiled.

---------

Gilbert stretched out his gloved hands, feelings the joints crack. With quick fingers he began punching in various codes on the antiquated keyboard before him. Occasionally he would reach over to pull on a rusted lever next to the console to bark a few orders into the sounding horn.

"Fleet 15, see to our northern side. Ground force 3, proceed with evacuations."

Again his hands danced across the keyboard before he spoke again.

"Voyager Islo, this is Gilbert. Fuseli is planning on attacking."

From the other end, a curse, "Damn it Gil, I knew this would happen. The world could be crashing around him and he'd still try and plant a flag on the heap of rock he was standing on."

"This is hardly the time to discuss the Admiral's motives. You pledged your support to Tortuga, do you plan on rescinding it now for some vendetta?"

Islo paused and then said, "No. I made an oath Gilbert. What would you have us do?"

Gilbert removed his hat and lightly massaged his forehead, "Fuseli will seek to take some of the technology and information we have here and I don't feel comfortable with that happening. If you proceed to the warehouse on the eastern side of the Skyland, you will find a store of various artifacts. Take them, give them to your trusted pilots, and then scatter out of here."

"Very good Gil, anything else?"

"I'll want a few escorts for some of the refugees. Can you provide?"

"Be happy to. Anything else?"

"No. Be safe."

"Islo out."

Gilbert sat in silence in the cavernous command center of Tortuga, listening to everything.

-Day-

Guildmistress Eltsina gazed out from the deck of the Jade Fan, a powerful submersible that floated like a great metal monstrosity on the surface of the sea. Through her binoculars she could see Tortuga above her, with the great form of Fuseli's Scarlet Blade. Every few seconds, she would see a flash of light come from the Blade's hull, followed a few seconds later by the sound of massive cannons.

A robed acolyte bowed nervously before her, "Guildmistress, your orders?"

She smiled benevolently at him, "Young one, you conduct yourself in so unbecoming a manner. Can you not see the glorious opportunity before us?"

The acolyte stared at her, with fearful eyes, "Honestly Guildmistress, all I see is a lot of smoke and gunfire."

She laughed, "And where there is smoke, there is a change; and where there is change, there is much potential. Ready our ships."

The acolyte nodded and disappeared below deck. Behind the crash of the ocean Eltsina could hear enormous gears beginning to turn. The submersible's long deck opened before her, revealing a platform covered in various small aircraft.

Turning her head upwards to Tortuga, she smiled.

----------

Islo watched as his men loaded various crates and boxes onto their ships. As he walked around the hangar, occasionally he would hear the sounds of cannon fire from the distant other side of Tortuga.

He watched as a number of Tortugan civilians loaded up onto the docking platform of a large Zeppelin administered by a young male bear. Islo looked at him curiously for a moment, trying to identify his colors. He called out, "Ahoy, Captain. What faction do you hale from?"

The bear looked at him, with somewhat widened eyes, "Er...no faction sir. I'm still a flight schooler."

Islo's eyebrows raised slightly, "Truly? Well, that is impressive. And you're here to help the evacuation?"

He nodded.

The two of them watched the loading efforts for a moment.

"What's your ship's name?" Islo asked.

"Hope."

For a second, nothing was said. Then Islo started laughing. The bear next to him looked a bit surprised for a moment, and then smiled, "What? It's a good name!"

Islo grinned, "I certainly wouldn't question the appropriateness of it, but sti-"

The radio next to them interrupted and was then crackling out the voice of Lord Gilbert, "ATTENTION: Flight Schoolers. Begin the evacuation. This is NOT a drill."

The voice on the other end went silent.

Islo's face was now grim, "And I suppose now it begins." He turned to the bear and held out his hand, "Good luck Captain. Blue will try to see you and your charges out of here unscathed."

The bear took it, "And to you Captain. See you on the other side."

As the flight schooler walked away, Islo looked out in the direction of Fuseli's assault. His eyes narrowed.

-Dusk-

Gilbert sat in the dark silence, his command room occasionally rocked by the mortaring of the Skyland.

"Such a gloomy place to conduct business, Gilbert."

He whirled around to see the small form of the Guildmistress before him.

"Eltsina."

She nodded her head. Walking past him, she leaned against the console. Gilbert watched her and said, "I am a bit surprised to see you here, Guildmistress. I had heard that your faction was much in conflict."

Eltsina made a dismissive motion with her hand, "That is my people's nature. We question and analyze. I would have been disappointed had they not argued and simple accepted my directive like subjects before a King."

She looked at him, and Gilbert was reminded of how while Fuseli had an air of terrible magnificence, Islo a gentle camaraderie, Eltsina had always radiated danger.

She spoke, "My people are already distributed throughout Tortuga. We stand at the ready." She looked at Gilbert, "And so? What would you have us do?"

Gilbert reached into his pocket and pulled out a slip of paper and handed it to her, "Take this. It leads to some of the catacombs here where you will find some plans and schematics that I want to see removed here. Take them and keep them from Fuseli."

She raised an eyebrow, "You seek to keep them from one person's hands and deliver them to another's? Rather unlike you Gilbert."

He smiled, "You can certainly try to use them Eltsina, although I trust you will have some small difficulties seeing as they are not complete."

She watched him, the two standing in almost pure darkness, lit only by the flicker of a few gas lights. Eltsina smiled, "Very well Gilbert. We shall do so."

She turned on her heel and began to walk back into the darkness. As she neared the edge of Gilbert's vision, she turned and said, "And what of you, most Honored lord? Do you plan on going down with your ship?"

Gilbert had turned his back to her, "That requires the ship to still exist, Guildmistress."

-----------

Fuseli watched as his forces engaged the pirates. He would occasionally relay an order, and then watch as his fleet performed it expertly, decimating the lingering Tortugan resistance, the civilians long since evacuated.

As he looked out on the conflict, his eyes made out a small speck of nearly nothing in the distance. He peered out at it, watching as it gradually began to increase in size.

Eyes widening, he called to his lieutenant, "Ready the North Winds! I believe a challenge is being offered."

Fuseli watched as his fleet shifted like a billowing cloud and readied to face the newcomer. The speck, grown larger now, showed up as a small maneuverable ship painted with the colors of the blue faction. His fleet moved to engage it, but was met by a craft that zipped and darted through their lines of fire, looped over their craft, rapidly changing direction, ducking, weaving, and always moving just past their lines of sight.

"S-sir," his Lieutenant said, "a message is being patched through."

The Admiral snarled, his usual veneer of disinterest faded away, "Patch them through."

A familiar and infuriating voice came through, "Ahoy there you decrepit patch of bilge water."

"Islo, how good of you to come right upon the moment of my triumph"

The Admiral silenced his end of the radio speech for a second and turned to the Lieutenant, "Ready cannons, train them on his space and shoot him down."

"Triumph, old man?" Islo asked, "It seems quite appropriate to me that were anyone to pick at Tortuga's leavings, it'd be an old buzzard whose wings have been clipped."

Islo's craft escaped from the embroiled dog fight and placed itself on a course straight for Fuseli's viewing room. As the red ships attempted to keep up, Islo's ship released a spray cloud of sticky liquid behind it that caught two of Fuseli's North winds, gumming their engines.

Fuseli's eyes narrowed as he looked towards the advancing speck. While he could not make it out, he could sense Islo's eyes meeting his as the two stared across the rapidly diminishing gulf of sky between them.

"May the skies take you, Fuseli!"

"Lieutenant, fire cannons!"

The sound of explosions rocked Tortuga, leaving an eerie silence in their wake.

-Night-

Thunder rolled across the skies. Great rocks of Unobtanium floated like depth charges about Tortuga, occasionally exploding with violent force to send shards of the green material across the sky.

The zeppelin Hope touched down on Volstoy, and the civilians rushed out in droves to reach shelters that had been provided to them. A young captain looked out into the sky and wondered what tomorrow would bring.

-

Beneath Tortuga, the Guildmistress' submarine descended silently back into the waters. Eltsina watched Tortuga for a few moments, its presence only registered by an area where the stars were blocked out by a consuming blackness.

-

Captain Dalhoum of the Phantom Fleet flew in silence, the aircraft behind him carrying their various cargos of artifacts. Every few minutes he would turn on his radio and request that all ships check in, always to find one important individual not responding.

-

The Scarlet Blade's surface was heavily damaged, blackened in various places by gunfire, with several of its support blimps deflated to some degree.

-

Standing in the wreckage, a wiry figure looked out, holding onto a burnt form of an old chair for support. His face showing several burns, and his uniform a tattered mass of strips and burnt fabric, he still carried himself with the regality of a king.

"Lieutenant," his voice calm, yet behind it all the rage of the storm.

A boar, bearing similar burns hobbled up to the Admiral, "Yes sir?"

"Is Tortuga mine?"

"Yes sir."

"And Islo?"

"No sign of him sir."

"And Gilbert?"

"Similarly, no sign, sir."

The Admiral said nothing, but then smiled, "Very well. And the unobtanium upheaval is growing unmanaged?"

"Yes sir. It would probably behoove us to move our forces out now."

"Tut, tut. One does not conquer only to leave his conquest behind."

The lieutenant looked at the Admiral curiously, "What do you propose sir?"

"Something that I have always been inspired to try since I first saw Earthbreach."

Subject: A Conclusion
Author: Lord Gilbert, Tortugan Diplomat

To the Council of Nine,
I have sought to serve the cause of Tortuga for quite some time now, but it becomes ever clear to me that my efforts will no longer be needed. For some time, the Tortugans represented opportunity, liberation, and choice, but I feel that the need for this is at an end. It was never our place to be a faction at the fore front of things, to be parlaying and acting on the same level as the other factions who vie for Skytopia.

As such, I too am no longer needed here, but I do know a group who has need for an individual to guard and guide them in this world of many choices.

You charged me with acting as go between for your people and the true factions of Skytopia, but that is no longer needed. You are not a faction, you are a force of nature. Tortuga has been taken, but in return I offer you all the skies.

The Tortugans are no more.

Long live the Pirates.

May the skies, keep you.
Lord Gilbert

-

The hum of engines had become a veritable scream of protest. Fuseli sat watching, his eyes taking it all in. Enormous chains draped between Tortuga and the Scarlet Blade, and as the Blade cut through the air, slowing towing behind it the enormous Skyland. His lieutenant stood beside him, mewling protests, "Sir, we really must abandon this! The unobtanium deposits will go off at any moment! We've managed to make some distance, but we are still in a dangerous position."

Fuseli fixed the officer with a glare, "Lieutenant, I generally prefer subordinates who do not constantly rehash facts that are clear to even the youngest pup. You are relieved of your post. Go man a battle station and leave my sight."

The boar blanched, before bowing formally and quickly leaving the Admiral's presence. From the din of the engines, Fuseli could not make out the sound of radio crackle and a familiar voice speaking.

-

"Attention all planes. From henceforth you are grounded. The unobtanium upheaval under Tortuga is reaching critical mass. Please seek shelter and stay out of the air. Please await my message of all clear. Be safe, and may the skies keep you.

Lord Gilbert, Flight Master of the Echo Flight School"

-

On some assorted bits of flotsam and jetsam that floated on the surface of the sea, a bruised and bloodied figure clung haggardly. He looked up into the sky to where Tortuga had used to be, to see only the stars and the occasional flash of unobtanium bursts that sent a shockwave through the air.

He watched, with bleary and bloodshot eyes as a few of the larger rocks began to fade their greenish shade away. These enormous stones began to turn a dark maroon that began to pulse and shake, causing the very air to burn with a frenetic energy.

From parched lips, a cracked voice said, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight."

The world exploded again.

Resolution at last. Good to see that Fuseli was victorious in his efforts. Red Faction extends its deepest regrets to the loss of the Voyager Islo. May the skies keep you all.

Who is to say that he was lost? The Voyager is famous for his industriousness. He will be back, no doubts.

Well, maybe I've seen Islo, and maybe a few others have, too. He's just biding his time. Or maybe he's already off on some mission we can't only guess about.

Anway, enjoy your Tortuga, "Senator". As you have seen, it's quite vulnerable still. During my time as Governor there under the Blue flag, I found that nothing much is left. Now that we let the Tortugans get the scraps of their possessions your plunderers missed, it's just another place. With a big, scary-looking hill.

As one of the Protestors of The Green Conflict, I, too, extend my regrets to the loss of Voyager Islo. However, I suspect Fex is right, and he'll be back soon.

I also extend my gratitude to Mistress Eltsina, for gathering the schematics from the catacombs before the explosion.

And I extend my hatred towards Admiral Fuseli-- decrepit old {static}. Islo was right about you.

I believe the outcome of this battle is as follows:
1.Red owns Tortuga, which is no longer such a treasurable prize.
2.Tortuga is pretty much a mound of dirt now.
3.But it is our mound of dirt.
4.Fuseli proved he can still win battles.
5.He also proved he's still insane as ever (which I greatly admire him for)
6.Islo was defeated, but his death is questionable, I believe he'll be back.
7.I have no idea what the {static} happened with Eltsina.
Additions?

1. Yeah.
2. Yeah.
3. Yeah...
4. Err... yeah... *I grudgingly admit*
5. Yes, yes he is.
6. He will.
7. She's around. I saw her on the forums just not too long ago. Having a good time sipping tea in her submarine and whatnot. I also play poker with her on Wednesdays. She can call a {static} good bluff.

Oh, you don't want us to see you naked, Kenisu. I have trouble with Australian names, I don't know if you are a male or female ferret.

Rule 34, as defined by 4Chan:
"Anything can be made into porn. There are NO exceptions."

Unless you're talking about Texas Hold 'Em going absolutely weird with the Kings and Queens and Jacks on those playing cards becoming porn actors, I think you're lying. :3
