As silver wings cut through the dark of night, Mairi stared out at the horizon. At the line between ocean and sky, a shadowy glow hinted at the dawn soon to break. Having long given up on yet another restless night, the morning hunt had already begun.

A set of tiny blips slid onto the radar, causing a grin to play over Mairi's face. Hands moving in quick, practiced motions, she cut the throttle, lifting the nose slightly to bring the tiny craft down to subsonic speeds. Rufus opened one eye, the changing drone of the powerful engines bringing the drowsy navigator back around. Counting the dots, the tawny tomcat yawned. No threat, just routine.

The cluster of lights started to spread on the green field of the radar, forming a ring around the central point on the monitor. As the circle started to close, Mairi punched the engines for a sudden burst of speed, then peppered the small craft she'd picked out with a light shower of bullets. Ting ting ting, light shots of little consequence rang against the other craft's hull before she struck the heart, the sweet satisfying sound of blown engines reporting as the spiral of smoke trailed down to the water below.

From the sides, two red zeppelins converged, trying to trap her between their guns. With a twist of the controls, the Vice Versa spun in the air, the specialized plating and customized ailerons twirling her into a dainty pirouette, pointing a delicate wing to the fading stars as swarms of lead wasps buzzed helplessly past on both sides. As she spun, the bright blaze of return fire flared from her own twin barrels; ting ting ting, seeking out the weak spots until the satisfying thoomp of an explosion heralded the death of a stabilizer. With a swift burst of power, she looped up and around, chattering guns seeking and prodding until finally the dwindling crimson airbag sank down toward the depths. A quick wingover flicked her around to chase its sibling, another light patter of bullets and thump of explosions sending the second blimp to join its brethren in the water.

Two remaining dots lit the dark screen, one streaking out toward the edge as it tried to make an escape. As Mairi urged the engines forward, the gap between them rapidly closed. Blowing past the unmodified Ingersol into range of the enemy's front gun, Mairi couldn't help but turn up the corner of her mouth in amusement. Another sharp change in acceleration and a quick lift of nose dropped Mairi to a near dead stop before the other pilot could react, swiftly cutting short any glimmer of hope as she dropped back to his tail. Easily matching the desperate twists and rolls of the needle-pointed plane, she continued her deadly rain of fire until the inexorable hail of bullets struck home again, the high performance engine giving a sputtering wail before the craft plummeted downward, falling to the ocean like a dropped dart.

Banking into a pinpoint turn, Mairi sped after the last blip slowly churning its way to the opposite end of the green display. Speeding past, both barrels blazed as she skimmed the massive blimp, puncturing a few small holes in the reinforced balloon. Once in front of the aptly named Leviathan, another twist on the controls rolled the modified Loki onto its back, dipping her nose down into the final half-loop of the split S turn. As she leveled out, the tiny plane faced the mammoth craft head-on, aiming straight for the armor plated gas chamber, coming near enough to see the look of shock on the face of the pilot below. Cutting engines and lifting its nose sharply, the Vice Versa came to a dead halt, floating in the briefest moment of weightlessness between flying and falling, a sacred fraction of a second in silence, held up by nothing more than a slender thread of faith stretched taut as the world stood still.

After less than the span of a heartbeat stretched eternal, Mairi threw the switch to retrograde and the engines roared back to life. Another change in the drone could be heard as the paired turbines churned, driving the plane back with a sudden burst of reverse thrust. As the wind caught the newly changed shape of the drastically shifted ailerons, Mairi's heart dropped to her stomach from where it had caught in her throat, just like it always did. Easing the controls to better match the speed of the blimp ahead of her, she waved to the pilot below as slug after slug started to bore into the plating of the primary gas chamber. A quick laugh sprung from her lips as she saw the parachutes unfold below, the mighty zeppelin slowly sinking into the blue. Within moments, Mairi had returned to forward thrust, tearing off toward the horizon, leaving nothing but a sonic boom and smoking debris as the silver bullet vanished into the rising sun.

/me hugs Mairi.

/me scans the tavern in hopes Xenos will show up.

All joking aside, it's a pretty mean short-range fighter. When taking down pirate Avengers, does it ever just hit you "man, that guy is having a terrible day"?
