A "c" is very useful, as it turns rust into crust, rush into crush, and makes a scare scarce. Hope this helps.

AC is either Auto Cannon (a type of weapon) or Armor Class (A sub-set of plane specifications)

Armor Class negates some of the damage weapons do. The higher a plane's AC, the less damage it takes from normal hits. Critical hits are unaffected.

While an autocannon is a largely ineffective version of a machine gun. Skyrates Rule 7: Never bring an autocannon to a gunfight.

Dear Mr Fluffy,
Kindly PM me your address so I can bill you for a new keyboard. Mine suddenly has coffee all over it.

AC removes moisture from the air. This in turn has a cooling effect, leaving a room nice and chilly.

As someone who, during times of respiratory illness, was forced to forego the cooling benefits of air conditioning due to its dehumidifying effects, I will point out that a noted mathematician provides the distinction between primary and secondary properties, and the removal of moisture is decidedly a secondary effect.

In short, I believe you are putting Descarte before the hoarse.

So am I right in thinking that- to beef up my leviathan's defenses, assuming higher level pirates have more flaks/howitzers, I should invest more in armor plating than a reinforced hull ?

The Leviathan already has a *lot* of armor. I recommend Steel Reinforced, at least, and Heavy Armor if you find you're still unable to take pirates down before they get you.

Also, flaks work both ways. The Levi can overlap three medium flaks on a single target, which is a *lot* of damage, especially if that target is in the other broadside when it fires a second later.

AC (reinforced hulls are the upgrades for that, I think) seems to help a lot more than a few more armor. Plus they use less hull slots, too...

Actually, you can fit both hull reinforcements and all three armor mods on your Levi. None of the +cargo mods should be used (as they actually make your trading worse) and with the full armor+hull set you're pretty much invincible.

I started with KarHallarn's setup, but eventually peeled off most of the armor for speed mods.

No amount of armour class will save you from flaks of any size, since a large amount of their damage comes from crits, and crits ignore Armour Class.

It will take most of the kick out of howitzers though, especially Small Howitzers. It'll about 40-50% out of a Medium Howitzer's damage (80), and about 20-30% out of a Large Howitzer's damage (140). You'll be pretty much immune against autocannons, machineguns and longarms.
