((I hardly think I'll need a week and four days, but if you can at least keep posting chunks here and there I suppose it'll be fine. Though I'd like the others to weigh in on this, too. Also, Adamantine?! At what Z-level?? Doublealso, nice to know I don't have to go speak with those filthy Elves anymore.))

9th Malachite

Remember that fellow who was "suspiciously good" at Butchery? Well, somehow, he got voted in as mayor.

Image

I've decided to make one of the rather large rooms near Narua's into the Mayoral Suite. But barely a day in, Kib's mandated the creation of three sets of leather armor.

Image

Luckily, we already have three sets of leather armor.

The magma continues to flow in the channels. We attrated no migrants this season, but with our population now numbering 53, I don't think being migrant-free will be an issue.

7th Galena

Another cat bled to death. I'm absolutely sure of the cause. We have some dwarves wearing clothing made of frozen forgotten beast extract - when they go outside, it melts a little bit. Then an animal walks through the puddle and bleeds out a few steps later. Whatever forgotten beast this extract came from, it is truly dangerous.

19th Galena 1053

A human caravan arrived - thankfully. We've been running low on barrels, and humans always have a lot of barrels. We traded with them and they made a nice profit while we got a goodly supply of barrels, some glass, and a LOT of food.

Also, our Siege Operator was possessed - we may need to construct a Siege Workshop for him.

Image

Finally, the magmaworks are now active.

Undated Entry - Same Day

Huh...the Siege Operator claimed a Craftsdwarf's Workshop - interesting.

22nd Galena 1053

Deduk has begun his mysterious construction...with some chestnut logs, maple logs, golden beryls, and some microcline blocks.

27th Galena 1053

Of all the useless...!

Image

In other news, I've assigned Sazir Uristtomen as Captain of the Guard. The prison is located near the Cavern Access Control Point.

They're wearing clothes made of a frozen forgotten beast?!
Can you force them to take it off?

Uh...I don't know. I /did/ forbid the clothing - that may or may not cause them to remove it - but I don't think there's any way of forcing them to remove it short of putting them into a squad with leather armor, letting them get dressed, and then removing them from the squad.

I know it's an hour 'till cutoff time for me - today's been rather hectic. I'll run through my two years and post a report of the remaining time soon.

Ya, no progress since my last, so...exit post...

28th Galena 1053

It seems some urgent business must call me away - apparently my cousin in FailCannon needs my help. I'm handing the reigns over to my good friend Rudolf.

Everything I planned to get done is so much done as set in motion. The magmaworks are done and running, the main gates are usable.

The cavern access point needs to have its ramps removed and the bridges need to be linked to levers.

Food production is stable and all else is well.

Rudolf, I leave the fate of the Black Gates in your hands.

[OOC: Rudolf, just play the rest of the current year and then the next two years. Save is here. Just download the linked version of DF and then drop the folder into /data/save.]

7th Limestone, 1053

I've been looking forward to this day. Today is the day I get to manage a fortress, all on my own. Everyone is depending on me, and I won't let them down.

Um... okay... I can do this... I practiced.

Now, what were the fortress's main priorities again?

-Link up levers to the bridges at the cavern access point.
-Remove the ramps from the cavern access point.
-Do not let Narua near the levers.

Sounds simple enough. I feel sorry for Narua, but after what happened last time, we just can't afford to take any more risks. Now, let's start with linking up those levers. I'll place them near the other levers for convenience.

Image

17th Limestone, 1053

Some of the vile forgotten beast clothing has been buried, hopefully to be forgotten as the name implies.

Image

The levers remain unfinished. I think they can wait, though. I've got a roof to build.

25th Limestone, 1053

I thought it was strange that I hadn't seen Bomrek in a while.

Image

As it turns out, he had been trapped under the bridges in the cavern access point with no way out.

Image

It's all my fault... Idrath, forgive me...

26th Limestone, 1053

I don't believe it. I've been in charge of this fortress for barely a month and someone's already died due to my carelessness. I should've followed the orders I was given, but I was just so fixated on building this roof.

Image

Speaking of which, we're all getting thirsty. We'll deal with it later.

28th Limestone, 1053

We attracted no migrants this season. I hope word of my mistake hasn't travelled too far. We'll resume construction on the roof.

1st Sandstone, 1053

The levers are finally finished. Took our mechanics long enough. Now they just need to be linked up to the bridges in the prison.

Image

In addition to the roof, I also have weapon racks to finish.

2nd Sandstone, 1053

Would someone like to tell me why I have to walk all the way up here to get to my workshop!?

Image

6th Sandstone, 1053

We've finished the weapon racks. I don't really know where they belong, but I'm putting one in the Captain's office so she'll stop complaining so much. I guess I'll just put the rest in all our rooms.

Image

And she still has the nerve to say her house isn't good enough. I'm trying my best, gimme a break already.

Image

14th Sandstone, 1053

The levers are complete and working. Now we can recover Bomrek's corpse and bury him before he can possibly smell any worse.

Image

Image

Currently, these bridges are useless. They retract, yet the pits they cover are sloped enough for any intruder to simply walk through them. It does, however, make a good temporary hiding place for the cursed shoes Bomrek had still been wearing, the ones that no doubt brought about his misfortune. At least until I can decide where I want to bury them for good. Or maybe I'll just... yeah, that'll work!

17th Sandstone, 1053

Image

There! I just had the floor dug out from under the shoes, dropping them into the water below without anyone even having to touch them.

Image

Have I ever told you you're a genius, Rudolf?

[OOC: Sorry, I know it's not much of an update, but I wanted to show what little progress I had made... how long do I have left, anyway?]

[OOC: About a day and a half from your post. Also, I'm the reason you were going to that mason shop way up there... :D It was to make blocks for my own little project, that never worked out. Doublealso, I hope the forgotten beast stuff in that water doesn't foul the whole thing up...]

[OOC: To make the CotG whine less, smooth and engrave the room. Also, I'd recommend removing the ramps at the access point - I'll post a picture of how I'd recommend you do it.]

So, a roof's nice and all, but you know what a fortress really needs? A toilet. Like, a really big one, right? And it's gonna be awesome. I've already instructed the miners to start digging, but I haven't told them what it'll be yet. I want it to be a surprise.

15th Timber, 1053

A pantless pilferer came traipsing into our trouser treasury!

Image

The thief escaped, but our pants remain safe for the day.

23rd Timber, 1053

The toilet's been dug out. Now it needs to be smoothed and furnished.

Image

I let some of the others in on the idea. They looked at me like I was crazy. I'll show them!

11th Moonstone, 1053

The merchants from the mountainhomes arrived. We traded a bunch of stone crafts for cheese and liquor. I also threw more of that forgotten beast extract, as a "limited-time offer".

Image

Heheheh, suckers.

19th Moonstone. 1053

The caravan still hasn't left. A whole bunch of rhesus macaques tried to steal their, and our, goods.

Image

Emphasis on "attempted". There are still plenty around, though. If the merchants can't get rid of them all, we may have to close the gate until we can get a militia of our own.

10th Opal, 1053

Apparently the others weren't too happy that I ignored Herley's idea for a cistern in favor of building a toilet that's too big for anyone to actually use. The Captain called it a "violation of production order" and threw me in jail. And after I went through so much effort to make her room better! Unbelievable!

Image

I've lost count of the number of days I've been in here. I didn't get my diary back until just today, when a sympathizer finally brought it to me. I also took the opportunity to request that I be brought some food and drink. I haven't gotten any since I was locked up. Maybe most of them don't even know I'm in here. Maybe this is their idea of an ironic punishment, leaving me to die all alone, with nobody knowing where I went until it's too late, just like Bomrek.

Image

At any rate, I can't very well manage the fortress like this. Sloth will have to handle it in my place. When and if I get out of here, though, I'm gonna finish that toilet! Oh, and the roof. Assuming nobody else finishes it first.

[OOC: Sorry, guys, I couldn't even make it all the way to the end of the year, and the pump stacks for the cistern are only about a quarter finished. The save is here. As always, drop it into /data/save. So, how many years should Sloth play for?]

I don't mind just doing a year. Two seems to be a little ambitious as far as people completing their turns, and I'd like to buck that trend if at all possible. Watch this space for updates!

Warning: There is an above average chance I'll muck something up badly and/or the fort will fall on my watch. Losing is FUN!

7th Moonstone 1053

The fort was passed into my care. I spent this month examining things, making sure all dwarves had appropriate jobs and that all workshops were producing necessary goods. After puzzling over the cistern setup, I figured I'd leave it to those more mechanically inclined.

Meanwhile, on to the MILITARY!

Image

I setup temporary shop in the living quarters level and set my masons to work carving out a new home. Meanwhile, The Rough Steppes were formed and set to training.

15 Obsidian 1054

An outpost liason arrived, extremely pleased with our progress. Good news!

Image

We have officially become a Barony of the realm.

16 Obsidian 1054

Sadly, Rudolf has died of thirst while chained up in jail. May he rest in peace.

28 Obsidian 1054

Spring has arrived, and I felt the need for another smaller squad, now that the new training room is finished. I also set to work making a hospital right across from it, it seemed prudent. Also installed a kellen adjacent to the barracks, and hopefully we can get some War Dogs out of the whole deal.

Image

5 Slate 1054

Migrants have arrived! A goodly amount as well, 16 in total. Luckily we've been digging out the living quarters to provide more bedrooms, and the carpenters and masons have been hard at work.

OOC: Planning on getting this turn done by the weekend and onwards to Mah. So far, so good!

And never you mind the nice hospital I'd been laying out a Z-level or so above the entrance... :P

So THAT'S what that room was for. Nice coffins and shrubs in there at least.
