Look! Skylight on my iPhone.

Image

Only chat, none of the other stuff.

What, like an app from the App Store?

Oh, a native app would be swell. Much better than a clunky, slapped-together web app. This, however, is a clunky web app that I slapped together. It's a glorified web page that you visit in Safari, and optionally install to your home screen.

Web app, eh? So it will also work on my Motorola Nero Sensation Innuendo Delicious 3D XT? Or my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch?

Compared to Mobile Safari, Android's "Browser" is a pile of awful, which should be an embarrassment to Google. Pocket Skylight won't work on Browser, but it might work on the new Chrome for Android. But that's only available for about 1% of Android phones, which should be an embarrassment to Google.

I'm browserist, also too.

Uh, it asks me for my password…

Yes it does, because iPhone Safari doesn't allow extensions. The normal Skylight extension works by hijacking your browser's credentials, and never sees your password. But that could be a lie for all you know. If you don't trust me with your Skyrates account, you shouldn't use either Skylight. And remember Lord Gilbert's BIG IMPORTANT WARNING.

Tell me what to do.

Point your iPhone (or iPad, I guess, or Chromey Android) at http://skyrates.jusque.net/skylight

If you want, you can tap Add to Home Screen. That way you get an icon to sit with all your other apps, you don't lose screen space to Safari's toolbar, and you don't have to refresh every time the display goes to sleep.

Tested in my PC browser (Seeing if I can somehow get it into my kludgey android but not currently the point I'm making) and text was very dark in Chrome. Player chat text was black on black, and emote yellow and faction colors were also very dark. Not sure if that is just PC Chrome being silly, but just tossing it out there.

Otherwise, the overall layout looks nice, character selection and roleplay tag features are neat. Now if I can just sweet talk it into working all mobile-like, I can kill any hope of productivity... :remycute:

Ah ah ah...

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7-Inch is CONFIRMED to work with this. Which is good, because instead of slowly phasing out flash, apparently android's just completely up and dropped it like a ton of bricks. So I /can't/ use the normal client on my mobile.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

(Which is funny, because I'm pretty sure chunks of the internet still /use/ flash. I can kludge the odd file here and there, but otherwise nop.)

Works for me on a Droid Razr HD on Jelly Bean. I had to tick the option to request the desktop site to make it work, it just stayed black otherwise. You sure you don't have an error in browser agent logic or something?

EDIT: On further experimentation, I notice that scrolling doesn't seem to work at all. Can't grab and scroll the text, and it doesn't scroll when someone says something--it just adds it to the bottom, off-screen. It resets every time you switch tabs, so you can see the new stuff that way, so it's not completely breaking. But interesting.

Someone should make this into a proper iOS/Android app.

Just sayin'.

Not sure if this is for bugs or for here, but Nat's having problems connecting with the iPod Touch. It just does the grey screen and never gets to the log in. Is there a step we're missing, or it just doesn't play nice?

EDIT: No, apparently just doesn't play nice, from what I hear.

Reset related note: So... apparently nobody told Skylight mobile it was supposed to go down for reset, because it still works just fine apparently. Not sure if unintended, intended, or a Bad Thing, but there it is.

I'm not surprised. The client is in flux at the moment. It'll be up and down, changed and tweaked quite a bit over the duration of this reset.
We have a lot of testing to finish. Don't be surprised is something goes wrong or a RP is interrupted.
I say, enjoy it while it lasts!
