Hello, Skytopia!
I'm, as you may be aware, well on my way to getting my own project up and running (and accurate.) I call it "The Machine" as it instills a proper amount of foreboding, but what it does it test every person against every other person for a variety of semi-linguistic patterns. How often commas are used, average length of a typed line, etc. Many, many more additions in those tests as well as a lot of tweaking is coming. And after enough of it is here, I shall be posting it online somewhere, somehow, so you all can play with it and learn about your own writing styles!

What I need from you all is any tests you can think of. Things like "how often smilies are used" or "capitalized words per line" and such are ideal. And with many ideas implemented, I can then cherry-pick all the well-performing ones and get something that hopefully can detect alts just based on your typing patterns!
:remywicked:
What, that's evil? Nonsense, it's :blueflag: SCIENCE. :blueflag:

Capitalization at the beginning of a line, punctuation at the end of a line, British versus American spelling?

Use of chatspeak - IE, lol, lulz, etc.

Line length.

Uh...

How often a player spells words correctly/incorrectly.

What words are consistently spelled incorrectly.

Uh, that last one is basically British versus American spelling if you just choose only one to be the correct spelling.

Possibly use of unique words? For instance, I feel I use the word "necessarily" more often than others.

Yep, I plan on checking unigrams and bigrams that are common-ish to one person but overall not common. Should be a good one.

I'd never have thought of that! A very unique and unfortunately non-universal sort of thing, but while I'm restricting my data to just this game, why the heck not?

But in my language lol is an actual word meaning fun.

Also. Check for use of realise vs realize.

If you can find it use of /me vs /em.

How often they mention a single person.
I know I often bash upon Talon and Thorne.

I have just come to a stunning realization. More than half the game is populated by alts that bash on Thorne! The rest of the player base is either in Red or solely interested in RP.* My world makes so much sense now!

*Or is an awesome person who writes code ;)

Also, I plan on having the next version of The Machine working by next week, actually. There's two big things half-implemented now that once finished ought make accuracy far far better. And then I'll do a second round of wandering the game, handing out soothsays to people.

Update time!
I got a bunch of things fixed and broke a great many in the meantime.
There's some things I'm learning out of this: some things are great markers some of the time but terrible some of the time. Some markers are absolute crud. That includes one of the big fancy new ones I'd just implemented. Accuracy (which already was not particularly good) went down upon implementing "bigram comparisons" which means 2-word chunks that person A and B both use. I thought it'd be great! It wasn't.
I plan on changing it to work in a very different way and implement a similar thing for 1-word chunks (unigrams) over the next week or so, and we'll see how it's working then.
Of note, I'm using George/Kaylee Stallengrant, Mote/Sargeant Warcrime, Rudolf/Gerhardt Fahrenheit, and Hyashi/(one of his alts I'm not sure I can say) for most of my small-scale tests right now. Hyashi's writing style is the most deviant from itself, I'd say, and Mote's is by far the most consistent.

A sample space of four? Aren't you afraid of overfitting?

Yes.
But I only test individual things on them, and am able to get a fairly baseline idea as to what's working and how and why. Testing against everyone takes about 15 minutes each time and I like to make changes quickly.

On the progress front, I have a few major changes mapped out for the weekend. I'm setting aside all my code as is and archiving it as an old version. Now to begin a very revamped one, which will be all sorts of useful and (hopefully) better!

I'm also interested in posting this online somewhere, as an online interface. Anyone know how to host a python program online? I'd like to make a simple website as a frontend to this, and let people query themselves or check against others.

I seem to have heavily bungled things in my attempted update of The Machine.

Instead of fully reusing all my old code and shoehorning new features in, as of now I'm coding a brand new version that will use a lot of old code, but picked and chosen as opposed to wholesale dumped and edited. Forgive me for no updates, but I'm now well on my way to making this usable. And adding in user-friendliness, in case I can ever put this online somewhere. And seriously, if anyone knows of a way to host a python program online that would allow people to run it remotely, that'd be awesome.

Perhaps Google App Engine fits the bill.
