 Post subject: Add skill to reduce the gumption cost of G-turning

1. Everyone always says they have too many spare Combat Points.
2. Leveling maneuver skills reduce their Gumption cost.
3. G-turning uses gumption just like a maneuver.

Suggestion: Create a new 5-point skill that uses combat points and reduces the gumption cost of G-turning.

Apologies if this is old, someone in chat thought it had come up once before.

There was then an extensive conversation about the fact that this would make Perf-traders better in combat. To which my reaction is that stall is still an issue, so it doesn't make combat a snap of the fingers for those particular pilots, but more importantly this brings G-turning in line with other things that use Gumption. For that reason, I would also consider making G-turns be something that has to be unlocked through the skill.

No, I'm referring to (for example), this: http://skyrates.wikia.com/wiki/Barrel_Roll

The Gumption *skill* increases your gumption and its recovery rate. Maneuver skills reduce the gumption *cost* of those maneuvers. There is no skill that reduces the gumption cost of G-turning.

I don't think I knew G-accel existed! It could be included or have its own skill if we wanted.

Personally I think we have too many skills right now, and I'd rather not have basic game interface features tied to them.

Just to formalize what I said in chat:

There are unintended balance effects to increased G-turning. Right now, the turn is a fairly well limited boost to maneuver. Planes that are intended to maneuver poorly can overcome that limitation only in limited bursts. Upgrades balanced with +stall are intended to hurt in combat.

If pilots can get longer bursts of G-turn, they can overcome the limitation for longer periods. The G-turn becomes an additional permanent boost to maneuver without costing an upgrade slot. Planes that aren't intended to be any good become much better. I won't say if this is good or bad, but this is something that needs to be addressed first.

(It also would make balance just a little worse for players on Macs, where the G-turn key has been repeatedly moved between convenient places and rather inconvenient places, currently stuck on the latter.)

Doesn't really do anything about that. What you need, see, is a recurring way to spend points. Like being able to... throw them... at... something... which eats them... for some reason. But that's a whole nother thread.

Specifically, this one. Tommy's tickets are perhaps the best unimplemented suggestion in the history of this forum.

As for a G-turn cost reduction skill, I'm not opposed intrinsically, but realistically this would take combat from already pretty easy to something just absurd. Try this experiment: max your Gumption and Loop skills, then do sequential loops in rapid succession until you black out. Now try to do a 360 degree G-turn. The difference between those two methods is the only thing that keeps combat from being a joke right now.
