We're in a world with a lot going on, and roleplay could use some extra atmosphere, as always. While tinkering with some codex webpages, I thought of the idea to do [this], and now wonder if I ought to pursue further such things.
Sorry, Ell! D:
Also, apparently I can't be arsed to write a whole lot after making one of these. Figures. :shifty:

Link bork-borked, Maya?

"http://skylandsarchipelago.comli.com/Journals.html" goes to "http://error404.000webhost.com/?"

Not to mention, actually having this allows for moderately important events: (OMG pirates yesterday? Another {static} shooting?) are more likely to be visible, and if there could be a lurker link, that'd be even better. Things that might not be worth a fora post, but would be good to know.

Ah, people saw this. I didn't bother to update the link when I'd shifted servers before. I have modified the link appropriately.

Here, if you're too lazy to scroll up. :razz:

This sounds like a brilliant idea.

I love this, Maya. Well done!
One suggestion would be to thin the hierarchy a level or so. It felt like one too many clicks to drill down to the actual content. It makes my slow interwebs sadface.

EDIT:
And look!

That's post number 3000 for me.
I'll see if I can find you a little phil brand (TM) useless upgrade for your plane, Maya.
Congrats!

Hah. That's great. I look forward to my award! You know– the one I didn't earn except that Calvin just so happened to post his three thousandth time on my thread. Hehe.

I'm not sure how to logically reduce the hierarchy. I do intend to have more content than the newspaper, eventually. I figure the index->archive->newspaper is as short as it can get. I could have a 'latest edition' link on the index, I suppose.

Hmm. How about this?
Combine the content of the current index.shtml and journals.shtml such that http://skytopia.x10.mx/journal/23.11.223/A1.html is linked to directly from the index.shtml.

A link somewhere on A1.html that points back to index.shtml would be cool too.

EDIT: Something like this?
Code:
<html>
   <head>
      <script type="text/javascript" src="../scripts/jquery.js"></script>
      <script type="text/javascript">
         window.onload = function () {
            var listing = document.getElementById('listing');
            listing.innerHTML = "Retreiving...";
            $.ajax({
               type: "POST",
               url: "./scripts/directoryListing.php",
               data: {
                  link : "journal/"
               },
               dataType: "text",
               success: function (data) {
                  var output = document.getElementById('listing');
                  output.innerHTML = "";
                  output.innerHTML = output.innerHTML + data;
               }
            });
         };
      </script>
      <link rel=StyleSheet href="../css/style.css" type="text/css" media=screen>
      <title>Skylands Archipelago</title>
   </head>

   <body>
      <div id="credits">Hosted by <a class="invisible" href="http://x10hosting.com/" title="Free web hosting">x10 Hosting</a>. Photographs&copy;Tommy Chong. Website/Layout&copy;Muldrake.</div>
      <table>
         <tr>
            <td>
               <h1>Skylands Archipelago</h1>
               <h2><i>&bull; The Conspirator</i></h2>
               <div id="listing"></div>
               <br><a class="invisible" href="/submit.shtml">&bull; Submit an article to <i>The Conspirator</i></a>
            </td>
         </tr>
      </table>
   </body>
</html>

But that would become awkward as soon as I start adding other things to the website beside the newspaper-- now I've got this big ol' list of articles sitting in the way of all the other links which have nothing to do with the journal. But I can certainly add that link to the index onto the newspaper itself, and the latest article button I think I'll do for sure.

Also, here's that upgrade I didn't earn:
