So, most of the origins of the names of the Skylands are a complete mystery to me, however I can confirm a couple of things that you might find interesting:

Goldenrod was named after Anthony Daniels. He came to the ETC for a week as a visiting professor and was just a really incredible guy. He gave us a lot of good feedback on our interfaces and helped us make them less imposing (trust me, you should have seen them before).

Requin was indeed named after U.S.S. Requin, a submarine which is docked at the Carnegie Science Center. During the first semester of Skyrates, Bryan and Chris worked on a very successful Living History project that created an interactive exhibit about Requin mounted inside the submarine. They interviewed several veterans and created several touchscreen kiosks to teach people about the submarine and it's history.

Isla di Pisa was a play on the leaning tower of Pisa. The Skyland had a similar slant, so we thought it fitting.

Now, on to my speculation: My guess is that Arcadia is named after the Tom Stoppard play of the same name. It's one of my favorite plays, and I'm willing to bet that's the case for the Skyrate who named it as well.

However, I really don't know about that one, so please keep speculating. ;)
