I am sure there is a way to update the pages so they reflect the current information.

Worst case scenario would be having an alt parked on each skyland so you can check the prices of each plane every day so that the info can be updated. If that's the case, you might as well have the prices for goods checked everyday as well and start another special program that shows market fluctuation.

it would be a regular thing, perhaps a weekly operation which adjust prices based on popularity, and then adds a percent here or there for geographic variation. navigating markets is hard, yes, but i'd be gentle. this is a piece of low-hanging fruit i'd like to try.

part and parcel with it, i think, would be more public disclosure of how many planes there are of each type, etc. that way you could anticipate fluctuations before they happen, and/or see why it is the case.

You have any idea how useless that will make The Mechanic and many of the Skybrary pages?

I can imagine it now:
Thor
Cost: sum of seconds between now and 1/4 of the number of pancakes it takes to shingle a dog house / the percentage change in the GDP of Italy next Tuesday^number of players currently logged in

It's a very interesting idea, though you definitely have a point, Calvin. I love your pseudo-formula. :remylove:

I'm off to shingle a dog house in pancakes.

In the previous 7-tier system, the value of a kit was pretty high, one kit basically promotes your plane a rank. How much will a kit be worth in the new 9-tier system? The unknowns are:

* Kit weight
* Kit benefits
* Plane base stats
* Value of new upgrades that could be used in place of a kit

Personally, I'd like to see planes be generically upgradable to the next tier instead of taking upgrade weight, that way you can keep your beloved plane X indefinitely, or at least for a few tiers. The downside of doing this would be having to manage many more planes' worth of stats. But kit balancing was its own barrel of fun to start with.

Will there even be kits next round? Or, I heard that there might be a limit, 1 kit per plane, or such.

aww, bummer. a couple posts ago i hit #1700 in this thread, which i think in the past has meant nobody gets a swanky goofball upgrade; i reached the milestone in my own thread.

i should come up with a better system to deal with when that happens.

In my opinion, there should be a steady progression of available upgrades throughout a Skyrate's time in the game. A large part of the mindless grinding comes from the limited amount of upgrades between Mad Props(100%) and kits(~1100%). I would like to see parts that would fit in between this large price gap.

I would also like to see the kits be more differentiated. e.g.: no range upgrade from buying a combat kit. This way, buying a kit is really dedicating your plane to one specialty. In the same vein, there could be balanced kits that provide milder boosts than specialty kits but do not have stat reductions.

Yet another idea is having percentage weight upgrades. Essentially, these would take up a percentage of your plane's weight, which would limit the amount of stacking seen with the older kits. e.g.: Monster Wings - increases range, cargo and stall, reduce maneuverability, and uses 40% of your plane's weight.

Here's a suggesstion, Phil:
when no candidate available default goofball upgrade = Dead Cloud

hmmm? yes, a nod's as good as wink, say no more, say no more.

I had secretly hoped to have the first g-squig I ever earned displayed in a tasteful frame in my cargo hold but alas, it was not to be. :sad:

Dang, you're right, of course.

New rule suggestion:

when no candidate available for default goofball upgrade then next upgrade = Atomsk when back in flying machine

:smile:

Phil could give everyone an upgrade called "Phil's Phinest!", which gives everyone's plane a free ice box to keep their sodas and/or fish-pops in.

Ooh! Or I have an idea!

Considering what thread this is an' all, phil could just take that batch of awesome and upgrade all the planes to be swanky.

I like that idea. All planes next round get a cool upgrade, since they started the topic.

Of course, phil COULD give HIMSELF a neato upgrade.

I suggest a Jam-o-Drum.

Congrats, phil.

If we are discussing alternatives, I propose linear upgrades in each of the major categories. Why not assume a more 'black-box' technology and have Engine 1, Engine 2 and so forth. Each upgrade has a cost and weight penalty, and increases in performance. I'd favor performance increases in the respective category only, so that a player could create a pure machine, or mix among upgrades more cleanly. As the linear approach implies, each plane would only have one slot per category. Weight limits would dictate the number of high-level upgrades possible, just as in the current model.

Laying it out:

Engine 1, ..., Engine 4 = Upgrades speed, range
Combat 1, ..., Combat 4 = Upgrades armor, firepower, ammo
Wing 1, ..., Wing 4 = Upgrades maneuver
Trade 1, ..., Trade 4 = Upgrades cargo

This is pretty close to Suino's concept, I think.
