I've been trying to figure out the actual value of a trader. While it seems very likely to me that the first trader is worth having, I'm less sure about the second trader. I've read that the second trader is at half effectiveness, but it seems to me that he's even less than that.

If people could post the levels of their trader(s) and the normal/super tax deductions that you get, I'll see if I can make up a nice table here.

Data so far.
1 Trader
Level 1 -> 3%/6%
Level 2 -> 6%/12%
Level 3 -> 9%/19%
Level 4 -> 12%/25%
Level 5 -> 16%/?%
Level 6 -> 19%/?%
Level 7 -> 23%/46%
Level 8 -> 26%/?%
Level 9 -> 29%/59%
Level 10 -> 33%/66%

2 Traders
Level 5 & 4 -> 19%/38%
Level 5 & 5 -> 19%/39%
Level 6 & 5 -> 23%/46%
Level 6 & 6 -> 23%/47%
Level 7 & 6 -> 27%/54%
Level 7 & 7 -> 27%/55%
Level 8 & 6 -> 27%/?%
Level 8 & 7 -> 31%/62%
Level 8 & 8 -> 31%/63%
Level 9 & 8 -> 33%/66%
Level 9 & 9 -> 33%/66%
Level 10 & 10 -> 33%/66%

3 Traders
Level 6 & 5 & 1 -> 23%/?%
Level 6 & 5 & 2 -> 23%/46%
Level 6 & 5 & 3 -> 23%/?%

Lithel-
Can you pop what you learn onto the Skybrary article on Crew?
It's available at http://skyrates.wikia.com/wiki/Crew .

Anyone have time to look over their crew logs?

Especially anyone with just 1 trader?

I only have one trader crew and so far my rates have been:

Level 1 - 2%
Level 2 - 4-6% (had some variance because of profit sharing being turned off)
Level 3 - 9% (super was 19% which I didn't know why it went up)
Level 4 - 13%

I have one point in Leadership, which affected daily pay wages, but doesn't appear to have any impact in tax reduction.

I don't have any hard data to back it up but I believe I have the laziest 6th level Mechanic in the game. I'm lucky if he fixes four armor a day.

I'd fire him but he's a big oke and might try to butt me with his horns. I'd like to rehire one of those hottie grease monkeys!

I have a single Trader, the redoubtable Mr. Flemming.
From what I can tell in my logs, the % fluctuates by up to 2%. This may be bugginess resulting from wages being paid/damage, since even after the crew returns to full morale, it sometimes takes a while for the % savings to go up to their maximum. Below I list the maximum % I got with my trader (for non steel/paper goods, which get double the bonus because they are not covered by any of the trade skills) at levels 5-8 as well as his wages)

lvl 5: 16% (wages: 4500G)
lvl 6: 19% (wages: 5500G)
lvl 7: 23% (wages: 6500G)
lvl 8: 26% (wages: 8000G) (80,000 exp required to hit lvl 9, in case anyone is wondering)

Hope this helps. I should have him at level 9 in a under a week (I hope)

I have a question. Has anyone calculated if traders make back their daily wages?

Given that taxes appear to be somewhere from 40-50% of the price of goods, you'd have to trade around 75k of goods a day (including both purchases and sales) to make your money back on a level 5 trader.

Unless my lazy arithmetic-in-my-head skills suck, in which case somebody could correct me.

Really, that much? I thought that taxes were only a medium-ish portion, and that pips of TP skills and traders only reduced that portion by a certain percent. So, for instance, if taxes WERE 50% of a good, then if your trader combined with your skills decreased taxes on that by say 60%, then your goods would end up being 30% off.

That's how I understand it to work, in terms of how the trade skills apply, yes. I imagine the very high taxes are in part so that the trade skills actually have some effect -- 6% of 40 is at least somewhat significant, while getting a 6% discount on 10% taxes would just be depressing.

Oh, is that how the double bonus works? I thought paper and steel were just "worse" goods to trade, but if they tend to receive double trader bonus, then they're probably the best goods with a level 5 or better trader.

Traders most certainly make their wages back. I haven't done the calculation recently, but round about when my traders was lvl 5 or 6, I calculated that 20% of my TOTAL profit for the round so far came from my trader (and that is AFTER subtracting his wages and workers comp (injury pay))

Also, it appears from the incomplete data above that a second, junior trader, regardless of level, merely bumps your total savings up to 1 level above your senior trader's current level. More data will confirm/disprove this hypothesis. Anyone else have 2 traders and the time to go through their logs?

Mmmm... that's surprising, since 6+5 is also 23%. Interesting.

Very.
Especially since they're all exactly one-half of 42... which, of course, explains everything.

You were joking about it being exactly one-half, right?

Doesn't seem right to me. The super trades should be double the normal trade, which means it could be 47%, 46% or (maybe) 45%. Could you check to make sure he's at maximum happiness?
